Greatest inspirations Skating-wise, it'd be Richie Jackson, Rodney Mullen, and all of Cheese and Crackers. I'll even throw in Mike V. I'm not a huge fan of his skating, but I really respect anyone who's out there being creative and doing their own thing. Worst/Best scar? How did it happen? Back in high school, a kid pretended to stab me with his pencil, but I instinctively blocked it, so it sunk into my thumb. I've still got a chunk of the lead in there, so it looks like a tiny tattoo. Any hidden talents? I'm really into animation and special effects, and I have a comic strip. Best video part? Probably Sven Kilchenmann in Batallion. There are other parts that are more influential and inspiring, but this one is just incredible. It's got serious tech, rails and stairs, creativity, you name it. Same with PJ Ladd in Wonderful Horrible Life. Best fan moment? I did an impossible in a game of skate at a skatepark, and for the rest of the day, kids were following me around, asking me about it as if they weren't sure it could be true. I did stuff that was a whole lot harder that day, but for some reason, that impossible really stuck with them. What got you into skating? The unlockable videos in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. I had always been interested in skating, but those videos, especially Mullen's and Koston's, pushed me to actually buy a board and get started. Favorite trick? No comply frontside bigspin flips. They're one of the few tricks I have on absolute 100% lock. I really like how they feel, and I do them all the time. Where are you from? On a farm in rural Michigan. The closest street spot I know of is 17 miles away. What tricks are you known for? Railflips to rail and some other freestyle tricks. Most kids just call it 'Rodney Mullen stuff' or 'preemos,' which makes me cringe. Worst skating-related injury? Sprained ankle. I was trying to tre flip over a gap that ended in a curb, and my foot landed on the curb, then folded over so my ankle hit the ground in front. The doctor said it would have been better off broken, and it took literally a year and a half to get back to normal. |

Greatest inspirations Rodney Mullen of course Worst/Best scar? How did it happen? I have this big scar on my hip that's been there for over 3 years and hasn't improved at all. Like all good scars it happened with me trying to prove a point and showing off, haha. Me and two friends wanted to skate some hills, but I didn't have any other board than a street board, so we went to my friend's house to let me borrow his short board. I had never ridden it before and we decided to go to the biggest hill in our area. We never go from the top, we usually start about half way down or even farther down, I decided to go from the top. I made it twice but my friends were taking away from it saying that carving as much as I did made it easy, so I climbed back up, and bombed from the top, got to the very bottom and ate it! ruined my wrist, didn't break it, but really damaged the ligaments, hasn't been the same since. Sorry for the long story, but my friends had me say it so much I pretty much have it down to that speech. Any hidden talents? Oh yeah! I love random useless talents: unicycle juggle (while on a unicycle too) balance a ladder on my face a few magic tricks holding my breath for a long time working on walking on my hands I can do flips on the ground (frontflips and backflips) and more, but I feel as though I'm giving too long of answers that are boring Best video part? I can narrow it down to: Chris Cole New Blood Rodney Mullen Opinion Chris Haslam Round Three Mike Mo Capaldi Fully Flared Best fan moment? I work at a teen center (a recreation center designated for 12-17 year olds) so kids always come in and are like "aren't you the guy that ollie up the big three at Los Cerritos" or "that did a bullflip" etc. etc. I get it all, but I never have been recognized from my youtube, only skating with people in real life. Oh, my favorite moment was when I went to buy a slurpee at 7-11 and a kid recognized me because we had skated before or something, I thought that was cool, so to be a cool guy I bought him his Mountain Dew and hotdog. What got you into skating? The Tony Hawk video games and friends, I got into skating because it was the fad at the time, and then I just never stopped. Favorite trick? 360 flips (maybe 360 doubles too) nose manuals ollies Where are you from? Thousand Oaks, California What tricks are you known for? Bullflip Triple heelflip freestyle (nobody freestyles, so when people see it, it really sticks in there head as unique) Worst skating-related injury? tore 5 ligaments in my ankle trying to nose manual off of a pad with a 4 foot drop |

Greatest inspirations Rodney Mullen, Chris Haslam, Daewon Song, Mike Wright, Chris Atherton, Darran Nolan, Joe Flemke, Marc Johnson, PJ Ladd, Ronnie Creager, Guy Mariano. Worst/Best scar? How did it happen? Nothing really bad. Any hidden talents? Nothing hidden but I like designing things and enjoy photography, film making too of course. I post plenty of skate videos on youtube, they can be found under the username joemyo. Best video part? Theres alot of favourites, any Rodney and Daewon parts. Best fan moment? Its always funny when skaters come up to me at skateparks and ask if im me, because they've seen my videos online. Its nice to hear what videos they've been watching and what they think, and its good helping them out with tips on certain tricks they've seen me do. Its always a pleasure to meet new people and make friends through skating. What got you into skating? Me and a group of friends did usual things kids do, rode around on bikes, played ball games, played army men (shooting eachother with pretend guns, haha). One day we decided to get boards, we started just cruising down hills sitting down and eventually standing up. I soon begun learning the ollie and kept progressing, everything changed for me. My friends soon quit but I never stopped, there was just something I really liked about it. I found something that I could do however I wanted, in my own way. I Didn't need to rely on people, I could go out when and wherever I wanted and put my mind to something I enjoyed. I still cant get enough of it after ten years, im going to be skateboarding for a long time. Favorite trick? It changes alot. Overall, I'd have to say any manual variations. Where are you from? Leeds, United Kingdom. What tricks are you known for? Manual combos mostly, I suppose. Worst skating-related injury? Just Sprained ankles. Ive broke my arm falling out a tree and broke my toe on a trampoline but nothing skateboarding. |

Greatest inspirations Skateboarding-wise I have two main sources of inspiration. The first one is to just look at my board, then look at the place I'm skating (could be a park, a spot, or just the streets), then try to figure out a maximum of ways both could connect. Every situation you find yourself in is a given context and when you're skating, your board becomes the tool that will make it all work. So be creative and spontaneous. Second inspiration is just whoever I watch skating, regardless of whether it's in real life or in a video, except Todd Falcon - I think it pretty much sums it up. Worst/Best scar? How did it happen ? Scars I don't count them anymore, they are no biggie, and apart from a few sprained ankles I never got seriously hurt in over 8 years of skating and counting. I guess I'll just keep on knocking on wood. Any hidden talents? Ask my ex. (not literally fool, I know you could !) Best video part? I have a lot of favorite video parts, since my skate video collection is huge and covers a lot of different eras it would be hard to tell. But something I've been particularly stoked on recently would be John Motta's parts in Peter Vladd's Wonderful Horrible Life, and A Happy Medium. Best fan moment? I'm not a big fan of kids fanning out on me, but the first time I got approached by someone who had recognized me in real life from vids I had posted on my YouTube account (http://www.youtube.com/MisterCK) was a shocker, the guy was driving along with his girlfriend in the passenger's seat next to the street I was skating down, he literally pulled over and ran out of the car to say hi, introduce himself and watch me skate, he was sooo stoked. He even filmed me with his cell phone, told me he would tell his friends and they wouldn't believe it and everything, he was like in awe until his girlfriend eventually begged him to leave, hahah it was a totally awkward moment. What got you into skating? Always had a board at home and felt like skating, even back when I was a kid, skating wasn't too big yet I would be stoked everytime I would see someone just skating down the street and keep it in my head for days, same goes for everytime I would see an ad or something somewhat related to skating, etc., I really couldn't tell or explain why, but it's always been my obsession. It could have been a worse one I guess. Favorite trick? To see: anything that looks good. Tricks I can't do - front shove back nosegrinds, back nosebluntslides. Janoski's 360 flips. Tom Penny's everything, and Koston too. To do : 360 flips, nollie front lips, switch front biggies. Backside 360's, and heaps more. Where are you from? Blois, France. Originally born in Tours, France, and moved where I currently am about 12 years ago. What tricks are you known for? Signature tricks would be front foot impossibles and switch lasers when it comes to flip tricks, nollie front lips when it comes to ledge / rail tricks. And 360 flips, I like wallies too, and no-complies, all that fun stuff, I don't know. If anything I'd rather be known for my skating as a whole more than for just a couple of tricks hahah. Worst skating-related injury? A few sprained ankles here and there, nothing serious. |
